Court Rules
CARDINAL COURT RULES
- Courts will be available on a first-come, first-servebasis. You have to be present and available to take a court when you sign up. In the event you are already on court for a lesson, you may not sign up for use of another court until the end of that lesson.
- Prior to taking a court, one of the players must sign up with an exact starting time. Examples: 9:00, 9:01, 9:05. The time cannot be changed.
- If a court surface is not available, players may sign their name and time on the waiting list on the sign-up board, noting their preferred surface. You do not have to take a hard court if you prefer clay or vice versa. Preference for a particular court because of shade or location or any reason other than surface cannot be used to bump other players if there is a court available of the surface desired. You must take the next open court on that surface.
- If there are players waiting, play is limited to 1-1/2 hours.
- It is the responsibility of the waiting players to notify those playing of their expiration time in a courteous and polite manner.
- Courts should be surrendered immediately at the expiration time so as not to infringe on the time of others.
- Adult members shall have preference over Junior players 18 and under after 5:00 p.m. unless the junior(s) is/are playing with an adult member.
- You can sign up for a court for one and a half hours (1-1/2) whether you are playing a match or taking a lesson. If you are taking a lesson on a clay court, both you and the pro have to be present to sign up for that court. If your lesson lasts one hour, you still have half an hour on that court, after which you may be bumped off if someone is waiting for a court after your allotted time.
- After playing on courts, you are responsible for picking up all trash around and on the court. Receptacles for trash are conveniently located on all courts and throughout the club. Please strive to leave the courts, clubhouse and grounds as clean or preferably cleaner than when you arrived.
- Members using clay courts MUST brush them after play.
- One member cannot be signed up as waiting on a court while simultaneously playing on another court.
- One person will not be permitted to hold a court longer than 10 minutes after the starting time while waiting on an opponent for a singles match. The court will then be surrendered to the next players waiting. Basically this means you shouldn’t take a court until your opponent arrives unless you want to risk losing the court due to the tardiness of the opponent.
- Two or more players of a doubles match may take a court when signed in, but will receive no time extension due to the tardiness and late arrival of the balance of the foursome. In other words, you shouldn’t take a court
until your opponents or partners arrive unless you want to risk losing the court due to the tardiness of the other players. - A non-member may not be a guest more than once per quarter. The guest is allowed to play at Cardinal on a social basis and not as a league players. Multiple members may not invite the same guest more than once per quarter. Guest must be registered in the pro shop.
- A $10 daily pass is now being offered to the facilities of Cardinal for non-members. This pass will allow non-members to attend one of our many round robins, fill in for fun matches, or come and play with our members as a guest. The condition is that they will have to be a member of a tennis club (not just public court players) or on an active USTA league roster. Check with the office to purchase a pass.
MEMBERSHIP PRIVILEGES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- A late payment fee of $25 will be assessed to anyone not paying dues by the 10th of the month, after the beginning of the quarter.
- Pets will be allowed at the club only if they are on a leash and with their owner at all times. Pets are not allowed in the clubhouse, on the patio when there is food out or in the restrooms.
- Pro instruction is limited to two courts on Saturday mornings before 11:30 a.m. and is limited to three courts after 5:30 p.m.
Monday through Thursday.
COURT USAGE:
- During league play in the spring and fall, if only one team is scheduled to play at Cardinal, a total of five courts will be reserved for team play. Of the five courts, only three clay courts will be used at one time. The rest of the courts will be open for members. In the event there are two teams the same day, four (4) soft courts and (4) hard courts will be reserved for league play, leaving six courts for members. The teams will have to stagger one of their lines and wait for an open court. (In the event there are open courts with no members playing, it will be at the discretion of the Director of Tennis to allow the open courts to be used for a league match.)
